YCCCART is a group of people with an interest in archaeology. We investigate known and newly found archaeological features in the four villages of Yatton, Congresbury, Claverham and Cleeve in North Somerset. Some of the sites are of local or national importance, and surveys are recorded and published. We carry out landscape surveys using both manual methods and with sophisticated equipment to reveal features beneath the ground, which are not readily spotted by manual observations. The team consists of volunteers of all ages, some of whom have a great deal of knowledge and all have a desire to share their skills. Vince Russett, the ex North Somerset County Archaeologist, provides invaluable support and advice. We meet on Thursday mornings throughout the year and occasionally other days as necessary. Our tasks use many skills from digital technology to measuring and recording features using pencil, paper and tape measures (plus some basic maths). Our meetings also have a social aspect where we have time to exchange views and plans for new forays. We always welcome new members of all ages, why not join us?You can find out more about YCCCART from the leaflet YCCCART - A Brief History.
